California Adventure!
Hello lovelies!
As some of you know, Matt and I are off on a proper adventure around the great state of California! We'll be spending the next two weeks making our way from San Francisco to San Diego, where my sister and her fiancé will be celebrating their wedding - we can't wait! Along the way, we're hoping to share tasty food, pretty scenery and anything else this road trip throws our way. So, where are we going?
We've got a lot of ground to cover but I think we've got a solid plan in place that allows us to see most of the highlights as we go.
May 5th - 8th: San Francisco
Accommodation: AirBnB
Excited about: Seeing familiar faces, Alcatraz and Chinatown
We're spending the first part of our trip in San Francisco. We've booked our tickets for Alcatraz for May 7th so we'll spend the first day and half exploring the city. Fortunately, several university friends live in the area - including Mica and Harrison who we were lucky enough to see in London recently. We'll be rounding out the visit here by picking up our rental car and heading to Muir Woods for a quick visit before continuing to Yosemite National Park.
May 8th - 10th: Yosemite National Park
Accommodation: Big Trees Lodge
Excited about: Hiking, Giant Sequoias, and Waterfalls
The last time I was in Yosemite, it was during a very similar California road trip with my mom and sister... it's a little alarming to realize how long ago that was! We're looking forward to some fun hikes, a tasty dinner at the Majestic Dining Room, and just enjoying the beautiful scenery.
May 10th - 11th: Monterey
Accommodation: Days Inn Downtown Monterey
Excited about: The Aquarium and Cannery Row
Our stop over in Monterey is unfortunately just a night. We'll be racing over from Yosemite in the hopes of catching the aquarium before it closes. The rest of our plan is pretty relaxed: wandering down Cannery Row and getting some dinner.
May 11th - 13th: Santa Barbara
Accommodation: Franciscan Inn
Excited about: Big Sur, Whale Watching, and Tacos
Our drive from Monterey to Santa Barbara will take us through beautiful Big Sur. Since Highway 1 (the coastal highway that connects the two cities) is still under construction to fix damage caused by mudslides last year, we'll have to turn around and come back to highway 101 via Monterey. However, I think it'll be worth it to have a few extra hours just cruising along the coast! Once we get to Santa Barbara, we've booked tickets for whale watching and are already planning out our meals. We've been told the tacos are not to be missed and are also hoping for some tasty seafood.
May 13th - 16th: Los Angeles
Accommodation: AirBnB
Excited about: Griffith Observatory, La Brea Tar Pits, and Koreatown
While I did visit Los Angeles on that family road trip, I have to confess I don't remember it that well since we didn't spend a lot of time in the city. We're hoping to check out Santa Monica, Venice Beach, the WB Studio Lot, and the Griffith Observatory to name a few. The only issue is I have way too many restaurants on our list so we'll have to prioritize!
May 16th - 21st: San Diego
Accommodation: AirBnB
Excited about: ERIN AND BRYSON'S WEDDING!
The final stop on this adventure brings us to San Diego where my sister and her fiancé Bryson will be getting married on May 19th. We're so excited! Not only will we get to see lots of family and friends, but we'll also get to experience West Coast living with my favorite dachshund beastie... What could be better?!
So that's our itinerary! If you have any tips, tricks or recommendations - definitely let us know! We've been planning this trip for over a year so it feels like it's been forever. Now that it’s finally here, we’re so ready!
Next stop: California!
